Seamless Microcement Flooring

Seamless Microcement Flooring

Pascoe Vale Floors Completed: 28/04/2025 6 days
Project overview

This project involved the application of a full microcement flooring system across all ground-floor common areas of a new build in Pascoe Vale. Installed directly over a newly poured concrete slab, the finish was designed to create a seamless, continuous surface throughout the home.

Microcement was applied to the kitchen, living and dining areas, entry, hallway, stairs, and laundry, allowing each space to flow into the next without joints or transitions. The result is a calm, modern foundation that complements the architectural intent of the build while providing a durable, low-maintenance surface suited to everyday living.

Client brief

The client was building his family home and wanted a flooring finish that would not only suit the architectural style of the new build, but also perform reliably over the long term. With the intention of living in the home for many years, durability and system integrity were key priorities from the outset.

He was drawn to microcement for its seamless appearance and requested a light grey finish with subtle tonal variation to add depth and texture without overpowering the space. More importantly, he wanted the confidence that the system selected would be the best available option for a new slab, minimising the risk of future issues and avoiding the need for repairs or reapplication down the line.

The brief was clear: a refined, consistent finish delivered using a proven system, with no compromises on preparation, materials, or execution.

Our approach

Given this was a new build over a freshly poured concrete slab, our first step was to assess the substrate for moisture levels, flatness, and curing suitability before any coatings were applied. This allowed us to confirm that the slab was in the correct condition to receive a full microcement flooring system and to plan the application sequence accordingly.

We specified a complete multi-coat microcement system designed for floor applications, with a strong focus on flexibility, adhesion, and long-term performance. Preparation was carried out meticulously to ensure a stable, uniform base across all common areas, allowing the finish to flow seamlessly from one space to the next without visible transitions.

To achieve the client’s requested light grey finish with subtle tonal variation, the final coats were applied using controlled hand techniques, ensuring consistency while maintaining a natural, understated texture throughout the home. Particular care was taken around junctions, edges, and the stair detailing to maintain continuity and durability in higher-traffic areas.

Every stage of the process was approached with longevity in mind, ensuring the finished floor not only met the aesthetic brief, but was built on a system capable of performing reliably for years to come.

Final result

The completed floor delivers a seamless, light grey microcement finish that flows effortlessly through all ground-floor common areas, creating a cohesive foundation for the home’s architecture and interior design. The subtle tonal variation adds depth and warmth, preventing the surface from feeling flat while maintaining a calm, understated aesthetic.

Beyond the visual outcome, the flooring was built on a fully reinforced, purpose-designed system suited to a new slab and long-term residential use. The result is a durable, low-maintenance surface capable of withstanding daily family life while retaining its appearance over time.

By combining careful preparation, a complete CEMHER system, and controlled application techniques, the project achieves both the refined finish the client wanted and the long-term performance required for a home designed to be lived in for years to come.
